Looking Great In A Plus Size Dress by Andrea Morris
Todays society often dictates that the popular fashions are automatically reserved for everyone. This presumption often makes many feel as though they are predetermined to follow a pattern of dress dictated by a specific body type. Fact is, shopping for plus size clothing can be a stressful ordeal and there are a few fashion rules to follow that can help one achieve a sense of self confidence that will empower you to purchase, try-on, and "sport", new fashions.
First thing you should think about is what your physically appealing strengths are. An hourglass figure, small waist with equally proportioned hips & shoulders) has always been considered the most appealing shape. Clothing choices such as wrap dresses and shirts, skirts that hug the waist and hips paired with a blouse, belted dresses or shirts, are all great choices for those who have an hourglass shape and want to emphasize their small waist. Those with a rounder, apple type figure have their weight distributed more in their stomach area have to give more consideration as to what clothing choices will flatter their figure. Fashions should draw the eyes away from your mid-section. Do you have killer legs? Tops that billow towards the middle and skirts that end just above the knee are good choices for you. If you have a very pleasing face then a dress with a pretty, interesting necklines (ruffled, cowled, etc.) will bring people to look upwards towards your face and away from the middle section of your body.
Get rid of the misconception that solid colors are the only choice available to plus sized women. Prints can liven up any dress and plus sized women can use them in a creative way. For example, pear-shaped women (smaller on top than on bottom) can wear a printed top and a solid colored skirt. This dictates where peoples' eyes will land. It enhances the top while taking attention off the bottom, hence resulting in a balanced look.
The power of the color of the clothes you wear is incredibly important, and no matter how good the style of clothes that you wear, if they're the wrong color you won't look fantastic. Some colors will make you look good, and some will wash you out when you wear them. It is quick and easy to work out the best colors for you at home by yourself, so don't think you need to have it done professionally.
Just grab a few pieces of solid colored material (could be clothes from your closets, towels, linens, fabric, etc), a well lit room and a mirror. Hold the pieces up to your face, just under your chin, one at a time. You should start to notice changes in your face each time you switch up the color. Certain hues will undeniably light you up, while others will make you appear dull. This has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with the color you're holding up to your face. Once you've conducted this experiment, the importance of only including flattering colors in your wardrobe should be abundantly clear.

Am I fat or average proportion?
I always thought I was rather misproportioned or something. I'm female, 5'6", 121lbs (55kg), not large chested, waist=28.5, hips=34, size 6 dress/blouse, size 8 pants. I think I have a bigger bottom than top from looking at my measurements, but everyone says I have no ***. People assume I'm a size 0-4, but though I wish I was, I'm not. My thighs are ~18inch, calves 13in (relaxed & flexed). My arms are actually not that bad... my left arm is 9inch and 9.75 (relaxed & flexed, respectively) and my right arm is 9.5inch and 10.5 (relaxed & flexed, respectively). I'm not ashamed of my measurements, but I don't think I'm proportioned very well... or am I?? What can I do to improve?
what is your body fat %? if your body fat is at or below normal levels for your age range then your physical measurements should be ok. the body composition is what matters in terms of health
