How do I save a pattern?
So, my room mate got black dry-erase marker all over my white sweatshirt. It was an expensive one and a gift so I don't want to give it up. I've decided to dye it a dark green but there's a bit of embroidered lettering and a bird pattern that I want to save. These aren't appliqued on so I can't just take them off.
Any advice?
It depends on if the embroidery thread is a rayon or a polyester. And, you probably can't find that out and you can't just tell by looking at the sheen of the thread.
The rayon thread colors can run so I imagine that they could take up any dye you may want to use. However, the polyester thread color is more stable. When I embroider, I only use polyester.
I would take a miniscule amount of the dye and try it on a section of the embroidery to see what happens. Just try to pick out a spot that won't be really noticeable if it does take up the dye.
