Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois, who donned a hoodie during a speech on
the House floor deploring the killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, received
a reprimand for violating rules on wearing hats in the chamber. Rush removed
his suit coat and pulled up the hood on a sweat shirt he was wearing
underneath, saying, "Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a
hoodlum." Rush was interrupted by the presiding officer, Rep. Gregg Harper,
R-Miss., who reminded him that hats are banned and "members need to remove
their hoods or leave the floor." A House security agent escorted Rush out of
the chamber.
