Are Antique Dolls Quite Elegant And Popular Item?
Antique dolls are becoming quite popular prestige items among collectors but experience is needed to differentiate the fake from the authentic one.
Antique dolls have become quite popular among children and collectors because of their elegance. Many people who are eager to purchase antique dolls should keep the following factors have to be kept in mind before making a purchase:
Age-age is not a very important factor in determining the worth of an antique doll. The value of a doll depends on how rare and old it is. If a doll is readily available, then sometimes, its value might be more than the rare antique dolls. It is quite ironical to learn that the value of some large-scale produced 20th century dolls is greater than the older dolls.
Authenticity- The value of a doll depends upon its authenticity. If the body parts, eyes, wigs and clothing of a doll are completely original, then its value will be definitely more than some of the assembled dolls of today. This means that doll has been produced by putting together assembly parts, but the parts do not belong to the doll. It has become quite difficult to find an original doll in today's times, which has completely original hair and wig belonging to the doll itself.
Quality and fineness of the Doll It is very important to have a doll with the right kind of quality with the right kind of doll mold. Doll molds are given different shapes according to the talent of the creator who has painted them. Always be conscious about the quality of the dolls before purchasing them. Look for horizontal clear bisque, satisfactorily set eyes with long eyelashes, subtle realistic coloring, and homogeneous painting in an antique doll. Try to avoid the purchase of dolls with unequally painted lips and brows, dark spots under the eyes in the porcelain face. Dolls look quaint and cross-eyed when the eyes are not set properly in the face.
Size Larger prototypes of the same doll mold will be definitely valuable than the smaller versions as the collectors of antique dolls often agree to this point. The prices of the larger antique dolls tend to be higher than the smaller ones.
Clothing Clothing is the most important part while purchasing an antique doll. The desirable factor while doing so is to purchase a doll with the original clothing in good condition. Do not try to redress the doll in an attempt to give her a fresh look. Even if you make attempts to do so, then it is very important that you save the original clothing by enveloping it up in an acid free tissue. Store the tissue in a dark place and label the package to which the doll belongs. If the Doll has no clothing and is original, then dress the doll in fabrics and popular fashionable clothes.
Markings on the Doll A marked doll has a higher value than an unmarked doll like a shoulder plate marked doll is more expensive than an unmarked doll. On the back of the shoulder plate doll, there will be marks signifying the date of the creation of the doll. There can also be marks like a simple hallmark stamp on the back of the head of a doll beneath the wig area
The most important way to decide about the purchase of an antique doll is to go through some high-quality books containing doll photos and values. Many kinds of replica dolls are available in the market today but an experienced doll collector should be sure to differentiate an authentic antique doll from a fake one.

Would collecting pink label Barbie dolls be considered as a collection?
I was thinking about buying the pink label Barbie dolls, am I right that pink label Barbie dolls are the ones that are sold every year and is for playing? Is it a collection if I want to buy every different kind of pink label Barbie dolls and put them on display? Also, is it a collection if I buy the same type of Barbie dolls but put handmade doll clothes on them from a site like eBay?
Thank you for any future answers.
Some of the most collectable barbies are pink label. If you collect it, it is therefor a collection! I think what you want to know is whether or not pink label barbies accumulate value, and the answer is yes.
I list my barbies by label, and occassionally update a table to show the lowest and highest values they are selling for on ebay - Currently Pink Hope Barbie, which was released in 2007 is selling for as little as $50.00 and as much as $80.00. I bought it for $24.99 in 2007, so it has already increased in value. Same goes for Robert Best On Location – South Beach Barbie - I got it in 2008 for $19.99. It is now selling on ebay for $70-$80.
Dolls do not retain their collector value if you remove the original outfits and put on handmade outfits that you bought off ebay, at this point they become a "one of a kind Barbie", from there if you do something like cut and style their hair, repaint their face or make special shoes (or all of the above) you have created something unique and one of a kind, which of course brings value (as long as it looks good!). I hope that answers your questions!
