The most important piece of clothing to wear when riding or handling horses is a riding hat. There are two main types of riding hats available; riding hats and skull caps. However there are many more distinguishing features that separate one riding hat from another.

For additional comfort many hats now offer excellent levels of ventilation, which can help to keep your head cool when you are working hard. Look for hats with ventilation panels, particularly at the forehead and top of the head, as these are the areas that tend to get the warmest.
Finally, one of the key features of a riding hat is the harness, of which there are several types available. A flesh coloured leather harness is preferable for showing, whilst a darker coloured nylon is often more economical and suited to most equestrian activities.
