i am making a dress
and i just had some more questions
i was wondering what the pattern layout things mean when they say
with nap or without nap or with or without nap
and also
there are notches on the pattern pieces
and it says to cut outward
but when they are drawn, they are drawn inward?
There are arrows on the pattern pieces . In order for the fabric to hang correctly when sewed together all the arrows must be going in the same direction when placed on the fabric . The notches are there to help you put the pieces together correctly . Do cut them outward as it is easier to match to other pieces . As you learn you might cut them inward or not at all .
A quick hint if you are putting in sleeves it is so much easier to sew shoulder seams together then sew in the sleeve . Then when you sew the side seam your sleeve fits better no bunching or gathers in shoulder of seam
