Catnapping~ how do I teach my 10 wk old son to sleep longer than 45 mins in the day?
My son sleeps brilliantly at night, so I know he can self-settle. However it seems he cannot do it during the day 
Just this week, he has started catnapping, sleeping only for 30 to 45 minutes a time through out the day (He used to sleep for 1.5 to 2 hours, 3 times a day). This makes him overtired at night and any sense of a pattern (loose routine) goes out the window.
How did other mums get their children to sleep longer during the day?
Change his environment. Now that he is getting older his sense of what is happening around him is maturing too. He is tired, so he sleeps, but he is also getting more stimulated and interested in what is available to him in his surroundings. This will help ease him through this stage when you are able to put him in a place that is less stimulating.
Sometimes, not with all kids, but some kids, movement really helps to increase their nap time. If you haven't tried a baby swing that might also be useful in getting him to nap longer. When my oldest was little he would wake from his nap and I would take him outside and push him on a swing this would automatically increase his nap by an hour. Once asleep I would walk away and just let him hang there while I tended the garden or read a book. Sometimes I just kept pushing him if I had nothing else pressing or distracting me.
Finally, something to keep in mind that at 10 weeks old babies will start to change their routine and you can just try to patiently keep to it. When he wakes from his nap, if in a crib or someplace he doesn't hear and see you, than allow him to stay there for a bit longer. If he wakes after 45 minutes, wait about 10 minutes to see if he will fall back to sleep. My baby generally does if I don't rush in too quickly. Something else that might help is to give him a little bit of something to eat or up the amount he is eating to fill his belly just a little more satisfying his hunger a little bit longer.
