Help with crocheting? (yarn gets tight)?
I got a bunch of crochet pattern magazines yesterday and my mom got a bunch of yarn and 2 crochet hooks.
She told me how to do the 'double back' thing (not sure what the proper term for it is...going and making another line on top of the original one?). I already knew how to do the single line form years ago...
It took a few tried to get the 'double back' thing to work somewhat well, but after the first few 'stitches', the yarn gets tight and i can barely get the crochet hook through, no matter how loose it is when I start.
Any suggestions? I eventually want to make a coaster, then a potholder, then a scarf! 
Practice, patience and practice should solve your problem. It's your tension and the more you do, the easier it gets. It might help to do one row of single crochet and then one row of double crochet, alternating until you get more comfortable with controlling the flow of the yarn. Stay with small projects at first.
