Reading a sewing pattern?
I'm just learning to sew and I love it. I'm having trouble reading the pattern. Simplicity #4268, making pajamas (D) for my doll. I'm having trouble making the shirt. What is:
1. Fold line
2. Cut 2
3.Cut 1 on fold
Then there is something that say's "center fold".
And the "notches" how do you cut them or how do you work with them? Do anyone one any good sewing books for reading patterns?

Every pattern has an instruction sheet.
Select the view you want to sew and find it on the instruction sheet.
The instruction sheets show how to fold the fabric and how to place the pattern pieces on the fabric.
The cut edge is the width of the fabric.
The lengthwise edges of the fabric are the selvages. This is usually the longest side of the fabric. However, for this pattern, a fraction of a yard is being used, so it is the shortest side.
Fold the fabric (right side in) so the selvages meet. Opposite this is the folded edge or fold as referred to in the instructions or on the pattern piece.
The pieces that say "Place on Fold" are just that and the fold is not cut.
Using the PJ top as an example - It is open in the front.
Cutting "one" on the fold will be the back back of the shirt. It has no center seam.
Cut two is not cut on the fold because it will be the two sections that make up the front of the shirt. The center is open.
The seams for doll clothing is very narrow. Cut around the notches so you have a little "tag" for matching the corresponding pieces.
