Hen Night Ideas by Penny Bridesworthy
While the wedding is the high point of the bride-to-bes calendar, the Hen Night party beforehand can be just as important for her and her friends. Whether you are talking about going out with one or two fellow naughty girls, or spending a night on the town with a veritable flock, the Hen Night activities will need to be planned ahead of time for maximum enjoyment, no matter how cheeky. Here are some hen night ideas, as provided by www.cocky-hen.com.
First, the oldest suggestion is still one of the best: the pub crawl. Find a local stretch that you and your friends feel comfortable with and hit the pavement. Make sure to pace yourself: it wouldnt hurt to let the pubs know ahead of time what youre doing. Keep a designated driver and remember to stay in a group. Also, dont be afraid to pick up followers! Youre a large group having the night of your lives, but if you are looking for additional friends, be careful who you bring home to roost.
Second, a holiday overseas can open lots of opportunities! Organise a journey to another country for a few days. Perhaps you could make the trip to different parts of Europe, the Isles or maybe even the States. The downside is of course the expense, but the memories of the trip will be never forgotten. And who knows what adventures you and your fellow hens will discover? Also, its a well known fact that we quite often drop our reserve when we know no one knows who we are.
While not as overstated as a weekend overseas, a road trip can also prove to be just as exciting! Go along to your favourite places with your favourite friends and enjoy some last minute fun. Maybe a local amusement park or beach you havent visited in ages. Perhaps even something as fun as a camping trip can be enough to sew those wild oats.
Pampering is also something few hens can resist. Take some friends and spend the weekend at a health spa or resort and let everyone else do the heavy lifting. Just the thing to shed those pre-wedding jitters!
Finally, something as simple as a trip to a concert or local comedy club can liven up any night. Make it an evening of music and laughter to jazz things up before the big day.

I set up a short tutorial for you at http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=19031518
You'll want to cut copies of your original patterns... just pin them to newspaper or other big sheet of paper and cut out the copy just like it was fabric. Be sure to include all the dots and arrows and notches and draw in the grainline arrows correctly.
For the sleeve, I've diagrammed two possibilities.... one will give you a baby doll sleeve, with puffing at both the sleeve cap and at the bottom of the sleeve. You're going to be adding fullness mostly between the notches, because outside of the notches, the fabric is headed under the arm, where you don't want extra pouf (in most instances). I'd suggest that you probably don't want to add more than 1.5 -2x the original hem width to the sleeve, for most circumstances.
The other version of the sleeve will produce a 1940's looking puffed sleeve with all of the puffing at the top, and none at the hem. Notice that when you spread the sleeve sections for this method, the hem becomes curved. That's ok, but you can also straighten it out again -- just depends on what you want.
For the pants, you need to find the knee line. Fold the hem up so it is level with the crotch extensions -- this is the nominal knee line, and when you change the width of pants legs below the knee line, the changes you make must be the same on the inseam and outseam, both front and back. Otherwise, the pants legs spiral around your legs while you walk.
Basic procedure is to figure out how much bigger the new hem will be than the old hem. Let's say you decide you want the new pants to be 6" bigger around at the hem. Divide that number by 4 (6"/4 = 1.5") and then measure out from the inseam and outseam at the hemline and draw in the new
lower leg shape, remembering the changes have to match
front and back, inseam and outseam.
Both are pretty easy changes, but like anything with pattternmaking, you're going to want to make a muslin and see if that's what you want, and then tweak your design.
