I need a new hobby while I am quitting smoking and dieting......?
Currently I spend most of my time on ebay buying dolls for my collection. But for the next 3 months there is no money for that. I am also on a diet so there is to be no munching out. Add to that the fact that I am quitting smoking.
Before this I did not watch television but I did add that already and it has helped. I can knit but find it tedious and I draw well but am only really interested in portrait and have no models.
I can sew doll clothes and that is one alternative but I need other things to do as well.
Can you suggest something? I have heard about farmville. Do you have to buy it?
Anything you can suggest will help. Thanks.
Number 1 rule is, avoid places where people smoke for a while. Eventually, it won't matter, but now it does.
Drawing sounds like a great idea, and there are interesting opportunities to practice on hundreds of free models at places like a shopping mall, library, park or restaurant.
As for physical activity, I highly recommend it, but I suggest walking rather than running because the risk of injury is much lower. More and more shopping malls are opening their doors in the early morning (6 or 7 am) for walking clubs and individuals to use their air-conditioned-and-bugless-in-summer and heated-and-iceless-in-winter facilities for free, and some even have prizes and giveaways you can register for. You can also try gardening in the warmer months - digging and weeding are free and can be very therapeutic. Dancing can work wonders, too.
If you find knitting tedious, you may prefer crocheting or cross-stitching or needlepoint or even quilting - I often found knitting made me even tenser, but I loved all the others - they may be worth a try for you (crocheting is the cheapest).
Lastly, for the munching, I found chewing sugar-free gum and sucking/chewing on cinnamon sticks to be helpful (really intense flavor and mouth stimulation), along with nicotine gum and lozenges - Walmart and Target sell house-brands much less expensively than the name brands (I quit several years ago after smoking for decades).
Asking for ideas here is a creative approach, and the more creative and open to different approaches you are, the better you'll do. Trust that the 'down' periods will get less frequent and less severe, because they WILL! If you need to cry for a liitle bit, DO IT, but then go do something ELSE!.
Good luck! We both know you can do this!
