Hi, is there anything super important about having a leather skirt lined? Also incase any of you know, how do I iron a leather skirt?
Lining protects the leather for body oils, dirt and sweat, which can ruin leather. It keeps the leather from sticking and binding to hosiery and tights. It allows the skirt to easily slip on and off and to allow free movement of the wearer. A good quality lining can also alleviate some of the stretching of the skirt and eliminate the stretch stress on places like the butt so you don't get sagging and bagging at the butt.
Iron a leather skirt on the wrong side with a dry iron, no steam -medium heat. Use a cloth between the iron and the leather. Press seams flat hammer with a rubber mallet over a seam stick, a wooden dowel or handrail-shaped piece of wood will work. That's what many pros do. Use contact cement and the rubber mallet when hemming the skirt. There's no way to stitch an invisible or blind hem on leather. you have to glue it.
