So I live near Daytona Florida and just 5 mins ago around 2:30AM our puppy needed to go outside. So I grab my poop time jacket(outfitted with a flashlight, treats, and a clicker). As soon as we got outside I heard loud banging coming along side the house followed by 10min of dead silence(no crickets no frogs, nada). At first I thought it was the rednecks getting a early start to their weekend BUT no lights were on and no one was out there. Now the puppy did bark but didnt make chase (thank GAWD). During the day I have seen a ~8 inch in diameter hole along side a stump next to the house and it had freshly dug up dirt but no tracks that I could see. We live in a relatively undeveloped area of town(every other house is a uncut lot of land). Now I am originally from Wisconsin and I would normally say it was a raccoon or badger but this is Florida so what else might have this been?
Here are some of the critters I've caught prowling around my house at night, I live near downtown Orlando, but near open park space and lakes:
Raccoons
opossums
feral cats
foxes
coyotes
armadillos
stray dogs
tortoises
rats and other rodents
In some areas the bears are starting to roam too. And there are also wild hogs, but they make a huge mess when they dig.
